Missions Abroad Placement Service (MAPS) is designed to
involve men and women in foreign missionary service on
a short-term basis. Maps applies the skills and interests
of dedicated individuals who wish to be used by God in
overseas missions ministries. Through MAPS, every believer
has an opportunity to be involved in fulfilling Jesus'
commission to "go and make disciples of all nations" by
assisting career missionaries around the world.

What opportunities does MAPS offer?
Several types of opportunities for service are possible.
Teams from local churches and colleges can minister in
these ways:
(1) Construction teams. God has opened a door of ministry
through MAPS Builders to help reach the world's masses
with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Teams of men and women
from churches across the United States take one- or two-week
trips to foreign countries where they work alongside missionaries
and national Christians, building or renovating churches
and Bible schools.
The expense of a MAPS Builders trip varies according to
the project cost and travel expenses for team members.
Plane fare, ground transportations, lodging, food, passport,
visa, insurance and miscellaneous expenses are included
in the team's budget. When funds are given through the
local church, team members can receive tax-deductible receipts
for their expenses. The church also will receive World
Ministries Giving Credit.
(2) Evangelism teams. Local churches desiring to send
evangelism teams, at the invitation of Assemblies of God
missionaries, may also plan their ministry trip through
the MAPS office.
(3) College outreach teams. MAPS provided a strong link
between Assemblies of God colleges and the foreign field.
Colleges can easily coordinate their outreaches--drama
groups, choirs, ensembles and evangelistic teams--through
the MAPS office.
Individuals can participate with MAPS in these ways:
- (a) College interns. The MAPS office works with Assemblies
of God colleges to provide placement in eight-to
12-week assignments designed to meet the educational
requirements for a ministry-oriented internship.
- (b) Other qualified persons. The MAPS office provides
placement for interested and qualified individuals,
from students
to retirees, in many types of assignments lasting
from one to five months.* These opportunities
include local
church ministries, coffee house ministry, Teen
Challenge centers, crusades, libraries, Bible
schools, building maintenance,
housekeeping, literature production, Vacation
Bible Schools, youth and children's ministries and
evangelistic
outreaches.
Who can get involved?
To participate in the MAPS program a person should be......
- At least 18 years old.
- A mature Christian who accepts the fundamental
beliefs of the Assemblies of God.
- Active in the ministry of, and in good standing
with, the local church.
- Single or married without children.*
*In most cases couples with dependent children
cannot be placed through MAPS
because of the limited budget policies and/or
lack of available housing.

What about the costs?
MAPS volunteers are responsible for their own travel and
living expenses while on assignment. While itineration
is not permitted, funds may be raised from a home church,
friends, family and personal accounts. The MAPS office
will provide budget information to guide in the support-raising
process. The volunteer should also consider the possible
costs of a passport, a visa, immunizations and insurance.
